One of my favorite brands, OPAAK, invited me to capture my perspective on womanhood and the female body. The focus lies on the question: What kind of view and which values do we want to create and how can we shape and sustain them today and in the future?
I knew straight away that I wanted this to be a self portrait. I wanted to demonstrate self ownership in womanhood. A wound on the hand to show vulnerability and marks of the past. A rock shaped like the head of a spear to break with the things we want to leave behind.

I love working with this kind of light, it brings a sense of strength with it. The shadows make me curious. That's where the stories and history of a person lie.
HOLDING HANDS WITH YOU is an ongoing series, which I began in 2015 on my first trip to NYC. I asked people what they wanted to have in life and what they wanted to pass on, because I didn’t know myself. Each time I initiated an interview, I began by holding their hand. I felt like the moment we held hands, there was this openness, this trust. I felt so much closer to the person.
We live in a world where we are used to seeing models, actors, Instagram influencers and even just the people in our daily surrounding with perfect skin.
Now, let’s be honest, have you EVER seen an advertisement with a model who had pimples? Society demands us to be flawless, yet at the same time nobody is.
Whether you have suffered from strong acne or only had few pimples in your life, we all know the uncomfortable feeling of having “unclean skin”.

For STROGO Vintage in Chiang Mai. When I asked Marina, the owner of S.V. how much time we should plan for hair and make-up she said "We don't do make-up. Lisa is beautiful just as she is.". This inspired me to 'as well' do no photoshop.
Only vintage. No make-up. No photoshop.

I love moms {and all women} with this attitude!

I photoshopped off the logo on the sweater because it has nothing to do with how I see Lydia . We only met at this shooting, but what has stuck with me for a while were her efforts not to let food go to waste when she was working in Cape Town. I remember a little instastory where she went out of her way to make sure the food she had left over when she departed didn't land in the trash. ♥️
